A little bit about Nassau County

Nassau County is located in western Long Island, bordered by Suffolk County to the east and NYC’s boroughs of Brooklyn and Queens to the west. Nassau County is comprised of two cities, three towns, and 64 villages, along with more than 60 hamlets. It is also the most densely populated county in the State of New York, outside NYC. Thanks to its highway connectivity and extensive rail system, it is often considered one of the central areas encompassed in the New York Metropolitan area as well. It has a total area of 453 square miles, with around 37% of it (169 sq mi) comprised of water.

A Brief History of Nassau County

Nassau County was established on January 1, 1899 and it has always been a suburban area right from the beginning. It was originally part of Queens, but when the western part of the borough became part of NYC, the eastern part became Nassau County. There was never an intention to be part of the city; if anything, it was intended to be outside of the city. To this very day it continues to hold that identity as being apart form NYC itself. Largely an agrarian county until 1920’s, the area experienced an exponential jump in population particularly after World War II had ended. In 1945, the population was around 500,000 people, and nearly tripled in just 15 years period to about 1.3 million. It has stabilized at that level since. Nassau County was the first to establish a suburban form of government beginning in 1938.

Failing private septic systems are a cause for concern

According to SUEZ North America, Nassau County suffers from budget woes similar to many other states and local governments. This has lead to infrastructure under-investment, particularly in wastewater treatment facilities. One of the most devastating consequences occurred in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, which rendered one of the county’s main treatment plants out of operation. The Office of New York State Comptroller also suggests in a recent report that many of the 360,000 residential septic systems are failing. As a result, an unhealthy level of chemicals from wastewater has been seeping into groundwater, and eventually into rivers and bays.

Wastewater is a dangerous type of pollution, and may cause serious health concerns if not properly addressed. While the local government is responsible for running and maintaining proper operation of wastewater treatment plants, every resident also has the obligation to take part in a collective effort to keep the environment a healthy place to live. A decline of water quality is a major health concern, and everybody can give positive contribution by ensuring a proper plumbing in their own house.

Nassau County’s sewer treatment system

There are three sewage collection systems operated by Nassau County’s Department of Public Works. These systems include Bay Park Sewage Treatment Plant, Cedar Creek Water Pollution Control Plant, and Glen Cove Wastewater Treatment Plant. In addition to those, the county has 6 village-owned and operated wastewater treatment facilities in Freeport, Garden City, Hempstead, Mineola, Rockville Centre, and Roslyn that discharge sewage into the larger collection systems.

There are also 57 sewage pump stations and about 3,000 miles of sewer mains. The vast majority of the facilities are handling wastewater from residential housing. The Bay Park facility alone serves more than half a million residents, and only 1.5% of the sewage that flows into the treatment plant is from industrial buildings.

When it comes to Drain Cleaning, Reputation Matters

Of course plumbing and drain work does not even closely compare in complexity to sewer treatment. Nonetheless, plumbing and drain work are never as easy as they may seem to be. It takes years of practical experience, and knowledge. Even trained professionals still need to rely on specialized tools to diagnose any problem and address it accordingly. With over 65 years of experience, there are very few (if any) other plumbing companies that surpass Balkan’s level of excellence and quality assurance. You can trust the Balkan Drain Team, as proven by New Yorker’s decades of dedication to Balkans level of service. Not every plumbing company can afford to provide an unconditional guarantee for sewer and water service line replacement for 10 years, but Balkan Plumbing can and does.

Every vehicle in Balkan’s large fleet is equipped with a GPS navigation system, closely monitored by a central dispatch station that is staffed in-house. Every call regarding plumbing issues and emergencies is received in the office, and then forwarded to the vehicle or personnel located nearest to the caller’s address. All work orders are received and performed by Balkan personnel; there is no sub-contracting. A professional plumber from the company is always ready to show up and give thorough inspection and resolution to the problem. Punctuality has always been one of the characteristics Balkan Plumbing values the most. In addition, dependability and affordability are core values we provide.

On-site inspection is free of charge, and there is no obligation for you to hire the company afterward. All customers, without exception, are provided with upfront pricing with no hidden fees or extra cost of any sort. Balkan thrives at getting the job done right the first time to minimize the possibility of recurrent problems for years to come. Drain cleaning Nassau County, or anywhere in the NYC area, receives the same level of trusted service.
